Garbage In... Garbage Out

King Solomon, an incredibly wise person, once said, “Above all else, guard your hearts, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23

Paul, a passionate follower of Jesus Christ said, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8

And Jesus Christ said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, MIND, and strength.” Mark 12:30

Everything our kids take in through video games, cell phones, computers, iPods, iPads, tablets, the TV and more DOES impact who they are and who they will become. The media has a huge influence in our kids lives (and ours too!), in a way that builds up faith in Jesus Christ, or one that tears down. I believe Jesus would echo the phrase “Garbage in… Garbage out!”

So, guarding the hearts and minds of our children, and each of us as well, is a part of our responsibility as followers of Jesus Christ. Here’s the truth: God knows us better than anyone in the entire universe, He loves us more than anyone in the entire universe, so we can TRUST Him to know what is genuinely best for us… and our children.

Discipline as a Single Parent

It's hard enough to discipline the kids when both mom and dad are on board. But, what do you do as a single parent?

Possibly the Greatest Witness We Can Have

Is there a greater witness in the world than a God-honoring marriage? If God, from the beginning is this incredible, sacrificial, loving relationship of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit... then marriage can be quite possibly the greatest witness of that love available in the world. So how can we build marriages that last.

Why in the world would I want to serve in the children's ministry at Fairview UMC?

  1. Want to allow God to help you build and nurture faith in Jesus Christ, and not change it?
  2. Want to be energized seeing kids experience God's truth and love?
  3. Want to have a ton of fun with kids?
  4. Want to be creative and spontaneus?
  5. Want to have a plan and strategy for sharing Jesus?
  6. Want to make an eternal difference with children and families?
  7. Want to be a world changer?

Serve in the children's ministry. (It's not easy... but it's great!)

The Talk with Your Kids- God's Design for Sex

The GIFT of human sexuality is something that God gave each of us to bless us. The desire to connect deeply, even the act of sex itself is a blessing, a huge blessing. But, incredible passion unleashed in sex can only be lived out as a blessing... inside a marriage. So when and how can you help your kids remain pure and honor God with their sexuality? (By the way, if you feel like a hypocrite to set boundaries in your own child's like... don't! God knows what is really best for us and if we point our kids to God's way of living, our kids will reap such a greater blessing. Also, don't be afraid to tell the truth about the ways you may have failed in the past. By sharing with them the negative consequences of your choices, they will learn so much.)

I highly recommend getting this series, the God's Design for Sex by Stan and Brenna Jones is an aged-graded, Christ-centered series that is an easy read and a fantastic resource. I cannot endorse this series highly enough.

The Best Way to Get the Most Done as a Family!

I know this sounds so RIDICULOUS, really it makes no sense at all... without God.

But if you want to get the most done as a family, better yet, if you want to allow God to work in and through you, and without you, take a Sabbath rest.

At first it will feel uncomfortable. You'll think why am I not getting things done? You'll have withdrawal from your phone, tablet, tv and more.  You'll get a little irritated with one another. (Our family sure did!!!!!)

But, over time you be like this AHHHHHHH. This is what my family was designed to do! And you will be right!
